DHCP with Broadmax HSA300A-2

These instructions are intended to help you switch your Broadmax HSA300A-2 DSL Modem from bridging to DHCP routing mode. This is the extent to which Sonic.Net tech support will help you configure your modem. Any other changes are made at your own risk, and will not be supported by Sonic.Net. First you must configure your Network Adapter to use the gateway of 192.168.0.1 and the IP address of 192.168.0.2. Please see the DSL configuration screenshots for your operating system if you need help with this. Once the Network Adapter is configured you will be able to reach the Broadmax's web interface by using your web browser to browse to http://192.168.0.1. Click on the "Modem / Router Configuration" link.

A networking username and password box should appear. Enter the login name and password for your Broadmax. Click "OK". Once you have this done; it will bring you to the "Linkmax HSA300A Configuration" page.

On the "Linkmax HSA300A Configuration" page select the "Bridged - LLCBRIDGED (RFC 1483)" option and then click the "Configure" button.

Check the box for "Enable NAT". To allow the unit to pick up its WAN Information via DHCP use the "WAN Information" pull down menu and select "Dynamic (DHCP). If you wish to set the unit to a specific IP address: Leave the "WAN Information" pull down menu at "Static" and then specify your IP address in the "WAN Address" field. Set the "Subnet Mask" field to 255.255.255.0, and Set the "Route/Gateway IP" field to your assigned Gateway Address. On all new circuits the "VPI/VCI" should remain 0/35. On older circuits the "VPI/VCI" might be set to 8/35. Contact support if you have questions. Click the check box for "Enable DHCP Server". Once you have completed these steps click the "Submit Button".

Set the "IP Range Start" field to the first IP you would like the unit to give out as an internal DHCP address. The example here shows the starting IP address as 192.168.0.2, the first available in this subnet. Set the "IP Range End" field to the last IP address you wish the unit to give out. The example here shows 192.168.0.32. The settings specified in the example would allow the unit to give out 30 IP addresses - this is the maximum number of computers the Broadmax was intended to support. The "DNS Server Primary" field should be specified as 208.201.224.11. The "DNS Server Secondary (Optional)" field should be specified as 208.201.224.33. Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

You should now see a page that indicates your "Configuration Success". You should now go back and reconfigure your network adapter to get an IP Address automatically. Please see the DSL configuration screenshots if you need help with this.

Configure Your DHCP Broadmax HSA300A-2 Back Into A Bridge

These instructions assume that you are currently using a Broadmax HSA300A-2 that is configured to act as a DHCP router. To access the Broadmax configuration tool, use your web browser to connect to the gateway for your network connection. If you have previously configured your Broadmax using the [#Broadmax_DHCP above instructions], this will be "http://192.168.0.1" Click on the link labeled "Modem / Router Configuration."

On the "Linkmax HSA300A Configuration" page select the "Bridged (RFC 1483)" option and then click the "Configure" button. The "Bridge Configuration" page should appear

The "Modem IP Address" should be specified to 192.168.0.1. The "Subnet Mask" should be specified as 255.255.255.0. The "VPI/VCI" should be specified as 0/35 on all newer DSL circuits and 8/35 on older DSL circuits. Click the "Save" Button.

You should now see a page that indicates your "Configuration Success". You should now go back and reconfigure your network adapter to get an IP Address automatically. Please see the DSL configuration screenshots if you need help with this.
