Configuration

Connect to web interface

The Comtrend Nexuslink 5631 bonded ADSL2 modems shipped by Sonic.net act as NAT routers with DHCP by default. To access the internal web interface, take the following steps:

  • Connect the client computer directly to the 5631
  • Configure the client computer to use
    • IP: 192.168.1.5
    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway: 192.168.1.1

This can typically be accomplished by allowing the client computer to acquire its IP information via DHCP.

By default, the administrative username is "root" and the password is "12345" (please change this to something known only to yourself via Management>Access Control>Passwords).

Configuring for DHCP or a Static IP

  • Connect to the web interface
  • Click Advanced -> WAN
  • Press Edit to adjust the settings
  • Set VPI to 0 and VCI to 35, click Next
  • Select Mac Encapsulated Routing (MER), click Next
  • For a static ip setup:
    • Click 'Use the following IP address', and enter your Sonic.net assigned static IP address, with the subnet of 255.255.255.0
    • Click 'Use the following default gateway', and enter the Sonic.net assigned default gateway
    • Click 'Use the following DNS server addresses' and enter 208.201.224.11 and 208.201.224.33 (or 64.142.73.180 and 64.142.73.181 for DNSSEC)
  • Click Next
  • Enable NAT (probably not Fullcone, for security reasons), and the Firewall unless you have another firewall solution, click Next and finish

Configuring as a Bridge

NOTE: configuring the device as a bridge will make it inaccessible unless you statically assign your computer an ip address within 192.168.1.X, with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 192.168.1.1

  • Connect to the web interface
  • Click Advanced -> WAN
  • Press Edit to adjust the settings
  • Set VPI to 0 and VCI to 35, click Next
  • Select Bridging, click Next,
  • Ensure 'Enable Bridge Service' is checked, click Next, and save

If your service is set up for a static ip, configure your client computer(s) with appropriate static ip(s)

Turning off UDP services

  • Connect to the web interface
  • Click Advanced -> WAN
  • Press Edit to adjust the settings
  • Press Next until you reach the page titled "Network Address Translation Settings"
  • Check "Enable Firewall"
  • Press Next and then Save.
  • Click LAN on the left hand menu
  • Uncheck "Enabled UPnP"
  • Click Save
  • Click "Management" in the left hand menu then "SNMP Agent"
  • Click the button for "Disable" then press "Save/Apply"
