Outlook 2011 for Mac

This document outlines how to setup your Sonic.net email account for use in Outlook 2011 included in Microsoft's Office 2011 for Mac suite.


Setup a new account

When opening Outlook 2011 for the first time it will prompt you to either add or import an account. Click "Add Account."

  • From the "Accounts" screen click "E-Mail Account"

  • Enter your Sonic.net email address in the "Email Address" field.
  • Enter your Sonic.net password in the "Password" field.
  • Enter your Sonic.net username (without the @sonic.net) in the "Username" field.
  • Select "IMAP" from the "Type" dropdown.
  • Enter "imap.sonic.net" in the "Incoming server" field.
  • Check the box for "Use SSL to connect (recommended)"
  • Verify that the box next to where you entered "imap.sonic.net" says "993"
  • For "Outgoing server" enter "mail.sonic.net"
  • Check the box for "Override default port" and "Use SSL (recommended)"
  • Enter 465 in the box next to where you entered "mail.sonic.net"
  • Click "Add Account."

You are ready to check your email! Close the "Accounts" to return to your inbox.


Change settings

To change your Sonic.net email account settings click "Tools" from the menu bar and select "Accounts," then select your Sonic.net account from the left hand side of the "Accounts" window.

  • "Account description" can be whatever you'd like it to be to help you identify it as your Sonic.net email account.
  • Set "Full Name" to how you'd like your name to display on emails you send.
  • Enter your Sonic.net email address in "Email Address" and your Sonic.net password in the "Password" field.
  • Enter "imap.sonic.net" in the "Incoming Server" field and check the box for "Use SSL (recommended)"
  • The box next to where you entered "imap.sonic.net" should have changed automatically to "993"
  • For "Outgoing server" enter "mail.sonic.net"
  • Check the box for "Override default port" and "Use SSL (recommended)"
  • Enter "465" in the box next to where you entered "mail.sonic.net"

To make changes to the folders that Outlook uses for Sent, Drafts, Junk and Trash click the "Advanced" bottom on the bottom right. We recommend using the default settings which sync these folders with our IMAP server.

Click "Ok" to exit the "Advanced" settings, and then close the "Accounts" window to return to your Inbox.
