Password Policy FAQ

All Sonic passwords must be at least 12 characters in length. There are no complexity requirements which dictate that your password must contain uppercase letters, numbers, symbols, or any combination of these types of characters.

We use a password scoring system based on password security research. Passwords are scored based on a number of factors including how guessable it is using modern brute forcing techniques. Passwords that are highly guessable may be rejected. We also reject top passwords that have been found in various data breaches.

Our Password Guidelines page referred to above contains recommendations on creating secure passwords and keeping them safe.

We do not restrict passwords to the US-ASCII character set. Your password may contain Emoji characters and we fully support Unicode passwords (including UTF-8) or any other character encoding. Please be aware that not all mail clients support other character encodings and it might be difficult to type these passwords on mobile devices.
