Windows Live Mail Setup (IMAP)

To access the account settings in Windows Live Mail, open Live Mail and click "Add e-mail account."

The first page you will be shown is the Account Settings. Here you can specify your email address, password and display name.

Server Settings

  • On the next screen, your Server Type should be "IMAP"
  • The incoming server name should be "imap.sonic.net." and the Port should be set to 993. Select the checkbox below labeled "This server requires a secure connection. (SSL)"
  • The Login ID should be your Sonic.net account name in lowercase.
  • Outgoing server should be "mail.sonic.net", and the port should be 465. Make sure to check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL) and "My outgoing server requires authentication."

Click Finish

Click Finish to complete the setup wizard.

Open account settings

To access the account settings in Windows Live Mail, open Live Mail and right click your email account and select "Properties."

General Tab

On the General Tab you can specify your Display name, an Organization, your E-mail address and a Reply address. If you want people to reply to the same E-mail address you have listed, you can leave Reply address blank.

Servers Tab

On the Servers Tab, your Server Type should be "IMAP"

  • The incoming server name should be "imap.sonic.net."
  • Outgoing server should be "mail.sonic.net"
  • The E-Mail username should be your Sonic.net account name in lowercase.
  • Input your password, and if you wish, check "Remember password".

Advanced tab

  • On the Advanced Tab, your Outgoing mail (SMTP) port should be "465"
  • Check the box that says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
  • Incoming mail (IMAP) port should be "993".
  • Check the box that says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
  • The remainder of settings are peronal preference.
  • When you are finished, click "OK" at the bottom of the screen.
